Where to stay in Lviv
In short: for a day or two of sightseeing, the Old Town by Rynok Square is best; for a few days and quiet sleep, look near the center; arriving by night train, the blocks by the railway station; for a business trip or a long stay in a new building, Shevchenka Street, Chornovola Avenue and Pid Holoskom Street, the new buildings.

Old Town by Rynok Square
The Town Hall, cafés, museums and churches a few minutes from your door. On Friday and Saturday evenings it's the liveliest place in the city; for sleep, choose courtyard windows.

City center
The whole Old Town and around it: the Opera House, Svobody Avenue, Ivan Franko University. Townhouses with high ceilings, mostly without an elevator; car access to the pedestrian zone is restricted.

The center plus the blocks a block or two away: quieter, fewer tourists, and Rynok Square is still within walking distance.

Near the railway station
For those arriving by night train or leaving early. Ordinary city blocks, the center is a tram ride or 10–15 minutes by taxi.

Chornovola
New buildings at Pid Holoskom and in the Avalon complex, plus ordinary buildings closer to the center; some apartments have air conditioning and a terrace. Public transport or a taxi takes you to the Old Town; convenient for business trips and long stays.
